Say Goodbye to Comcast | Why We Ditched Cable

A few months ago my husband and I were going over our bills, we were trying to figure out a way to reduce our expenses and save some money.  This all started because we needed to renovate our kitchen.  Although we had some money saved up for our kitchen renovation project, we didn’t want to worry about expenses adding up when the project was complete.

So in order to keep ourselves from becoming overwhelmed with debt we decided to make some sacrifices and one of those “sacrifices” was cable.  At the time we were paying way to much a month for cable.  When we first got cable many years ago we got it on the cheap.  But over the years cable started adding fees for everything.  We finally wised up and decided that with all these other options, ditching cable was an easy no brainer.

Before we decided to ditch cable we did a little bit of research (it’s what we do).  With all the options out there we wanted something that was affordable and can give us more “bang for our buck”.

Below are other options to consider instead of cable:

ANTENNA
Antenna TV has been around for many years and over time we’ve forgotten that many local channels can be accessed with antenna tv.  When I was a kid we didn’t have cable.  My parents couldn’t afford it until I was in high school so we were used to antenna tv and “rabbit ears”.  Antenna has come a long way since then and you find some pretty decent antennas for reasonable price.

APPLE TV
Apple TV first introduced a streaming years ago.  You can access iTunes Movies and TV shows in addition to a growing number of channels and streaming options. Netflix, Hulu Plus, and HBO Go are all an option. There price is a one time cost starting at $179 and up. We have had AppleTV for a few years which is what we use in our bedroom and we like it but it’s very old and has a few glitches. You can read more about AppleTV here.

ROKU STREAMING AND MEDIA PLAYER
ROKU has been around for some time and offer many channels.  Roku devices give you access to 500,000+ movies and TV episodes from top free and paid channels, so you can stream almost anything.  To learn more about Roku go here.

CHROMECAST
Chromecast is basically a small receiver you can plug into your TV that you can stream from your computer or device to the TV.  Chromecast plugs into your TV’s HDMI port. Simply use your device and the TV you own to stream TV shows, movies, games and more. Chromecast works with iPhone®, iPad®, Android phone and tablet, Mac® and Windows® laptop and Chromebook.  You can read more about Chromecast here.

There are so many options one can choose from to watch your favorite shows and movies.  We chose to use Roku and added Sling as an added streaming service.  We got them both for a great deal.  Leaving comcast has been the best decision.  We pay about a third of what we used to and those savings can be added to our savings or most importantly our debt.

I hope that you found this helpful and if you have any questions leave them in the comments below.  If you haven’t done so yet make sure to subscribe to my blog for future posts.  Until next time friends have a great day!
