50 Spooky Halloween Movie List Your Kids Will Love
Now that we are Officially in Spooky Season, I’m excited to watch all the Scary and Non-scary movies for the Fall season. When it comes to movie watching we are very into it. We love all things Halloween. So here I’m sharing 50 Spooky Halloween Movie List your kids will love (and I think you will too!)
1. Casper
A young girl and her dad moving into a new town, where the widowed father who is a paranormal expert tries to communicate with a young ghost (Casper) and his troublesome uncles. While his only daughter tries to make new friends and fit in.
2. Monster House
Monster House is about 3 kids that realize their neighbors house is haunted by his deceased wife. They try to stop the house from hurting innocent trick or treaters. This movie has such a fun 80s vibe.
3. Corpse Bride
A nervous groom (Victor) was practicing his wedding vows in the woods, when a accidentally placed his fiance’s ring on a dead bride’s finger -and now she claims Victor as her own.
4. Beetlejuice 1 & 2
In Beetlejuice a recently deceased couple enlist the help of a bio-excorcist (Beetlejuice) to scare off a new family that has recently purchased their home. But the “Ghost with the most” has some unconventional ways they don’t agree with and instead make friends with the daughter. A great movie to watch this season.
5. Hocus Pocus 1 & 2
Hocus Pocus is one of our favorite movies to watch every year! The story of 3 witches (The Sanderson Sisters) that come back from the dead on Halloween night. In order to reclaim their youth and stay alive they must suck the souls of innocent children. It’s up to a young boy, his love interest, his little sister and a mischievous black cat to save the town of Salem.
On the second film the Sisters return a few decades later and continue their fued with new teens from Salem. Although this movie-in my opinion- isn’t as fun as the original. It did have some good moments that the younger generation may like. Of course we had to add this classic to our Spooky Halloween Movie List
6. Frankenweenie
A science nerd (Victor Frankenstein) loses his best friend, Sparky in a terrible accident. Heartbroken Victor uses a science experiment and successfully brings Sparky back to life. But the school bullies find out and use Victors experiment to bring their pets to life as well- with monstrous consequences. Such a fun movie for kids and adults alike.
7. The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown
A true classic and happens to be my older sister’s favorite movie this time of year. Charlie Brown’s friend Linus is obsessed with the Great Pumpkin and waits all night to catch a glimpse of this beloved character. A great not so scary movie to add to our Spooky Halloween Movie List
8. Paranorman
A young boy that can speak to the dead -Norman – was warned by his deceased uncle about a Witch’s curse that is set to harm the townsfolk. Now Norman must do whatever he can to stop this curse and her zombies.
9. The Adams Family
The Addams’ rejoice as they are reunited with their missing relative Uncle Fester, all the while con artists try to steal the family’s fortune. This is such a fun movie, full of family, love and eccentric characters. A great movie to watch from our 50 Spooky Halloween Movie Watch List
And the Sequel is just as fun when the Addams welcome two new family members, their baby and Debbie, Uncle Fester’s quirky love interest. Who happens to want the Addams dead.
10. Coraline
Coraline’s parents move her to a new home to start fresh. While there she makes a friend (Wybie) as well as meets some quirky neighbors. While exploring her new home Coraline discovers a secret door that leads to an alternate version of her world. Where Other Mother has some nefarious reasons to keep her there forever. Full of adventure and interesting characters. Coraline is a fun movie we love watch all year long.
11. Halloweentown
A young girl and her siblings that find out they are from a long line of powerful witches. We love a lot of Disney’s Halloween Movies and the Halloween town franchise is one of the good ones. Although we are not happy about the original Marnie not being cast in the movie the final installment of this film, it is still good movie to watch.
12. Haunted Mansion
Eddie Murphy is a great voice actor and his Mushu character from Mulan is so fun! When a family stays at a Mansion the father is too preoccupied with his work, he jeopardizing the lives of his family. This movie is mixed with humor and some fun twist and turns. a Fun movie I recommend on this 50 Spooky Halloween Movie List
13. Hotel Transylvania 1-4
Adam Sandler movies are one of the best for family entertainment. In this movie, Dracula owns a Hotel where his friends come to relax and enjoy a vacation away from humans. When his only daughter Mavis (voiced by Selena Gomez) falls for.. you guessed it.. a Human! All sorts of fun shenanigans ensues.
14. Mickey’s House of Villains
The Villains are center stage where all sorts of chaos happens while Mickey tries his best to have a fantabulous award ceremony. A not so scary movie to watch with your little ones and is a favorite in this 50 Spooky Halloween Movie list.
15. Goosebumps 1 & 2
When a boy and his family move to a new town, young Zach makes friends with his neighbor (who also happens to be his crush) and her father R.L. Stine. Zach accidentally unleashes the characters and now, with the help of his friends must send the monsters back to where they came from.
16. The Worse Witch
When a new student goes to witch school to learn her craft, she must do so without making too many blunders while also saving her friends and teachers from danger.
17. Twitches
Twin sisters are reunited on their birthday and also find out their witches that must save their kingdom from dark forces. A cute movie we love to watch and had to be added to our 50 Spooky Halloween Movie List.
18. Monster Squad
This classic movie about 5 kids that must team up to fight against Dracula and the rest of the monsters.
19. The Little Vampire
Whether you watch the original live action version or the cartoon reboot, you’ll love the story of a lonely boy who befriends a young vampire.
20. Gremlins
A salesman gifts his son a unique gift- Gizmo and Mogwai- for the holidays with the promise to follow the rules: Don’t feed him after midnight, don’t get it wet and Don’t expose him to sun light. It all happens and chaos errupts when Gremlins are now reaping havoc.
21. Ghostbusters 1984
The original Ghostbusters is about four men that use their science know how and quick whit to save New York from complete destruction.
22. Little Monsters
When a young boy makes friends with the monster under the bed and they go off to have adventures. It’s all fun and games until the little boy Brian realizes he himself is turning into a monster.
23. Igor
When lab assistant Igor gets a chance to win a contest at a science fair by building a monster he jumps at the chance but things go crazy when his invention Eve wants to be an actress.
24. The Book of Life
When three child hood friends find themselves in a love triangle- in which Manolo and Joaquin both want to marry Maria things go crazy when two married deities get involved making this a story for the books. Such a fun and beautifully made movie.
25. Monsters Inc.
When best friends Mike and Sully discover a human in their monster world they must make sure that no one knows of the mix up. Meanwhile as they try to return Boo to her home, their co-worker Randall is hot on their tale to steal Boo’s scream and be the number one scarer.
26. The School of Evil and Good
Two best friends are pulled into a fairytale world where one friend wants to go back home and the other wants to be a fairytale princess. Things go south and now they must defeat a villain or become enemies.
27. Coco
Miguel wants to be a musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz, but music is forbidden in his family. Miguel then goes to the world of the dead where he must get the blessing of his deceased family members in order to return to the living, while there he becomes friends with Hector a trickster that helps Miguel uncover why his family is again music.
28. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
If you’ve read the books then you’ll love the movie. It follows a boy named Jake that recieves clues from his grandfather that lead him to a different time and place. A place for peculiar children of abilities. Jake discovers his own abilities and that he is the key to saving his new friends from a terrifying enemy. This movie may sound spooky but it’s full of action, fun and a great story.
29. Kiki’s Delivery Service
A little girl with witch powers and her talking cat companion starts a delivery service to help her townsfolk but looses her powers and must learn to trust herself to get her abilities back.
30. Spirited Away
When a little girl and her parents stumble into an abandoned amusement park and her parents are turned into pigs, Chihiro must now go through a magical world filled with mystical beings to help her parents become human again and leave this strange place.
31. E.T. The Extra Terrestrial
A big hit in the 80s and I remember watching this movie as a child and loving it. E.T. is about a young boy, Elliot, who befriends an alien that was stranded on earth. With the help of his friends Elliot helps E.T. find his way home.
32. The Witches
Whether you’re a fan of the original or the remake this movie is a great film to watch on Halloween season. A little boy and his grandmother are caught up in an adventure where witches are trying to set up their plan to harm the town. Now it’s up to them to stop the evil witches.
33. The House with the Clock In It’s Wall
This movie is so fun and who doesn’t love Jack Black or Kate Blanchard? This movie about a boy who goes to live with his uncl, accidentally releases the dead. Now with the help of his uncle and the uncles friend/neighbor they must stop the evil.
34. Goonies
When a group of young kids set out to stop their home from being destroyed by an evil company that wants to make their home into a country club.
35. Cruella
Emma Stone plays the titled character in this Disney fun movie where a young thief and her friends plan a heist that is sure to change their lives.
36. Howl’s Moving Castle
A beautifully made movie follows this young girl, Sophie, who becomes friends with a wizard (Howl) and and is then cursed by a jealous witch. Now Howl must find a way to change his friend back to her youthful self.
37. Zombies 1-4
When my daughter was younger this was one of her favorite movies to watch. When Zed and his friends arrive at their new school they meet Addison. Although they didn’t recieve a warm welcome Zed and friends with the help of Addison teach the school that being different is cool.
38. Scooby Doo
Growing up I used to love watching Scooby Doo tv show. Years later I got to watch the movies with my kids. Who doesn’t love a silly great dane and his besties stop monsters and save the day.
39. The Labyrinth
When a 16 year old regrets wishing her brother away and must defeat the labyrinth and save her brother from the Goblin King
40. James and the Giant Peach
When a little boy is forced to live with her mean aunts, he finds a giant peach and along with insect friends makes his way to the city of New York
41. The Spiderwich Chronicles
Jarod finds a magical book that he must hide from the magical creatures that in search of that book.
42. The Nightmare Before Christmas
When the pumpkin king, Jack Skellington, discovers Christmastown he decides to kidnap Santa Claus and take over Christmas. But he soon finds out that it’s easier said than done.
43. Edward Scissorhands
When a scientist builds a young man named Edward (Johnny Depp) but dies before he could finish -sadly leaving him with scissor for hands. A lovely saleslady brings Edward home to live with her family, where he falls in love with her teenage daughter (Winona Ryder). But no matter how kind or talented Edward is to the folks of this town, they treat him like an outcast.
44. Bewitched
I remember my mother watching the TV show and loving it. The movie version follows Isabel (Nicole Kidman) who is hired to play Samantha on the tv show along side Jack (Will Ferill) things hit close to home as Isabel is afraid they may find out she truly is a witch!
45. The Curse of Bridge Hallow
Howard (Marlon Wayans) and his daughter must team up to save their town after an ancient and mischievous spirit causes Halloween decorations to come to life and wreak havoc.
46. Practical Magic
Sandra Bullock is a witch named Sally who goes on adventures with her sister Gillian (Nicole Kidman). Things go for a turn when Gillians boyfriend unexpectedly dies and an evil spirit is now inhabiting the body. Now the sisters must use their magical know how to stop this monster from ending their family line.
47. Casper Meets Wendy
After drawing the ire of a nefarious warlock named Desmond (George Hamilton), Wendy the Good Little Witch (Hilary Duff) and her aunts seek sanctuary in a special resort that caters to the supernatural. There, Wendy meets Casper the Friendly Ghost (Jeremy Foley), who is vacationing with his quarrelsome uncles. Despite their families’ prejudiced warnings, Wendy and Casper become fast friends. Before long, this high-spirited duo decides to team up to take down the bullying warlock.
48. Harry Potter
Harry Potter (Danielle Radcliff) a boy who learns on his eleventh birthday that he is the orphaned son of two powerful wizards and possesses unique magical powers of his own. He is summoned from his life as an unwanted child to become a student at Hogwarts, an English boarding school for wizards. There, he meets several friends who become his closest allies and help him discover the truth about his parents’ mysterious deaths.
49. 9 (Nine)
When 9 (Elijah Wood) springs to life, and finds itself in a world where humans no longer exist, and the only signs of life are sentient rag dolls like itself and the machines that hunt them. Though it is the youngest of the group, 9 convinces his new friends that the only way to survive against the machines is to stop hiding and find out why the machines want to destroy them. As 9 and the group learn, civilization hinges on their success or failure.
50. Girl vs. Monster
A tween discovers on Halloween that she is a 5th generation monster hunter. The monsters are out to stop her before she begins her calling.
