12 Things to Do with Your Kids during the Coronavirus
During this pandemic of the Coronavirus, we as parents worry about kids just as much as we worry about our parents. Not only about getting sick but when it comes to kids we need to find creative ways to entertain them without going crazy ourselves.
My kids are older so I don’t worry too much about them being bored. They have online classes, chores, videos games and movies to entertain them. They also have their friends they talk to online as well.
I do remember a time when my kids were younger where I would have play time and entertain them during snow days, holidays and vacations. Here are some tips and ideas on what you can do to entertain your kids.
- Make a movie or a play. Now a days with cell phones we can easily create a home movie or play. Create interesting characters and let their imagination take over and just have fun! I remember when my kids were little we used to love making plays and acting! Still do lol
- Build a fort. To this day my kids remember all those times I would take a bed sheet and build them a fort. We would bring their favorite toys and pillows and our dogs in. They would play for hours. I would even make them their favorite snacks or lunch and they ate in their fort. Such a wonder and fun activity for little ones and for Mom and Dad too!
- Let them be your helper. They are never too young to help around the house. When my kids were little I would clean the house and when they would offer to help, I accepted. This made them feel like they were contributing and it also taught them the value of helping others. Just remember to give them age appropriate tasks.
- Watch their favorite movie or show. This is a great way to cuddle up with your snuggle bug and really get into the movie. Have popcorn, drinks and be interactive! Sing and laugh, this makes it so much more for them.
- Have an indoor picnic. Have your little one pick the location and have them help with snacks, drinks and set up the picnic area. Even have them help make their own food, they will love it! When the picnic is over, they can help with the clean up! Such a fun activity my kids loved.
- Indoor scavenger hunt. If your child is old enough, write down some clues and hide them throughout the house. Have them solve the clues to find the treasure at the end.
- Play their favorite board games. Puzzles were a very big thing with my kids and to this day we still play board games and have around 30 different games. You can also play sensory games for little ones and for older kids, charades!
- Let them play on their own. Kids are very resilient and will find ways to entertain themselves.
- Play dress up. Playing dress up is so much fun and kids love playing with make up and any accessories you’re ok with them using. You can even have an at home fashion show.
- Create an at home age appropriate workout routine. There are plenty of online websites that can provide some fun ways for kids to have creative play while working out. It’s not really about the work out itself but the fun of it, you can join them too!
- Play Hide and Find. This is a fun game that the kids played a lot. You take a plush animal or any toy and hide it around the house or yard and when you’re done hiding it the other seeks it. We played it like “Hot Cold” Really fun and to be honest we occasionally play this with my niece and nephew when they visit! (pre coronavirus)
- Create an obstacle course (if weather permits and you have a closed off yard). This is a perfect way to get out of the house and still practice social distancing.
These are just some creative ways to entertain your kids during this difficult time. I hope this inspired you to think of ways to help kids keep calm from this pandemic as well as entertained.
