Home Makeover Projects that need to be Tackled
This post is about home makeover projects that need to be tackled this year.
I love our home. It’s big enough for us – a family of five – six if you include our boy Oakley (which we do). With three bedrooms and the basics: kitchen, living room and dining room. Plus extras like front and back patios, laundry room, family room etc.
Our house is very dated and needs a lot of TLC but we knew after a year of searching that this was our house. Our HOME.
We have updated a lot in our home, but there are still a lot more projects we need to tackle.
One of the things I struggle with is sharing the not so pretty side of our home. I mean I see all these bloggers sharing their perfectly Pinterest worthy homes and mine is not like that at all. It can easily get overwhelming with all the tasks that I need to finish so I decided to tackle each project one at a time. In small, manageable doses.
I decided to share with you my wonderful friends our To Do List of makeover projects that we’re going to Tackle, so we can encourage each other to get those projects done.
In the future I’d like to share some “before” photos as I talk about our biggest organization projects and what we are planning to do in our home. I’m just hoping that by sharing these projects with you it will help us to appreciate the after all the more.
Not only will this keep me motivated and accountable for what I want to accomplish, but it will also help me to purge, organize and have a healthier mindset.
ORGANIZATION PROJECTS TO TACKLE (in no particular order)
FAMILY ROOM/HOME OFFICE
Over the Holiday season my husband Harvey and I did a mini revamp of our family room/office. We decided to brighten up the space by adding some paint to the dark wood panelling (yeah, wood panelling) we also added some new curtains and a TV stand. This has greatly improved the look of the room but it still needs a major overhaul.
One of the tasks I want to tackle is to find a storage solution for our office supplies and paper work as well as school notes and homework area. Although we share this office area me for my blogging and youtube editing and Harvey for his work from home days. The kids also use it as their homework area – which is a real task since everyone is homeschooling and working from home.
We also use half of this room as our family room. We added some furniture, hung our TV up and added a TV stand, which we will use to store the gaming console and other miscellaneous items.
Other things I need to find storage solutions for are:
- Harvey’s workout gear
- extra paperwork and school supplies
- camera + blogging equipment
- Decor items (not in season)
- Extra Office Supplies (printer, filing cabinet, etc)
LAUNDRY/CRAFT ROOM
My laundry room also doubles as a craft/storage room. And although my craft room is my sanctuary and I love spending time there, it can be a bit overwhelming when I need to do the laundry and work on a project.
This room is a bit of a catch-all and I always seem to run out of space. Although the room is large enough to store my craft supplies and a laundry area, I really need to figure out a system that can help me use the space the best way possible. I would love to add some shelving for my cleaning supplies, maybe some flowers, a small table to fold laundry and better lighting.
To be honest the craft room as well as many of the other areas of our home really need a major overhaul but because of budget restrictions, we’re just making due with an organized system vs. a remodel. (But it is on our home renovation wish list!)
BACK PATIO
After having an empty back patio for some time, we finally purchased 2 sets of outdoor furniture from Target (on sale to boot), which has really made this area feel like an oasis. We are planning to build a farmhouse table and buffet which will also double as storage for our outdoor items. We also plan on added some new lighting and privacy curtains. I’m really excited about this!
GARAGE
Our biggest project to tackle is our garage. Over the years we would use the garage as a drop zone for our projects. One of the worst habits we started was the “for now” talk. “I’m going to leave this here for now and take care of it later”, In our case that was a big mistake, we are often too busy to go back to whatever item is being stored. Which is a shame because it limits my poor hubby’s ability to use the garage for his projects.
I would love to tackle this project ASAP because this will help the hubs and I with other projects in the house a bit easier since we use the garage.
Since the garage is a decent size, I would love to have three zones. One zone would be an area to park Harvey’s car (I’m fine with parking my SUV in our driveway, we have plenty of parking).
The second zone would be for our lawn mower, bikes and scooters and a drop zone for miscellaneous items. The third zone would be Harvey’s work shop. Here is where we would have a shelving unit for all his tools, paint supplies, and enough storage to house all of his larger tools and scraps from previous projects.
MAIN BATHROOM AND HALF BATHS
Our bathrooms are so outdated. Whomever designed these bathrooms did not think of storage or style. We have our work cut out for us with these bathrooms. Think pink sink and tiles, grey counters and dated wall paper. Finger’s crossed I get to take down the wall paper soon and work on a fun revamp. Which I cannot wait to share with you guys!
ALL OTHER
We also have some smaller projects that we need to work on. Like finish painting the trim and doors in our bedrooms. We also need to add paint and some decorative touches as well throughout our home.
*Phew!* that’s a lot of heavy duty projects to work on! I’m confident that will get a lot done and am excited to start! I know Harvey is on-board with this idea.
